Joint Pain Relief: How Chiropractic Care Can Help with Arthritis
May has been designated National Arthritis Month since 1972. If you’re one of the millions suffering from this disease, discover how a chiropractor eases your pain to help you lead a more active life.

Approximately 1 in 4 adults in the United States have been diagnosed with arthritis or a related disease. Fortunately, chiropractic treatments address joint pain due to several types of arthritis, including osteoarthritis.

Our caring team, led by expert chiropractor Andrew Dube, DC, provides nonsurgical solutions for joint pain caused by arthritis and other issues at Apollo Chiropractic in Manhattan, New York City.

Different types of arthritis require different treatments

Dr. Dube and our team employ various procedures depending on what form of arthritis lies at the root of your pain.

Osteoarthritis

The most common type of arthritis, osteoarthritis wears down the cartilage cushioning your joints. Dr. Dube puts your joints into proper alignment, reducing wear-and-tear from arthritis and other conditions.

Rheumatoid arthritis

This autoimmune disease causes your immune system to attack your joints. While spinal manipulation shouldn’t be used on inflamed areas, Dr. Dube offers other therapies to treat surrounding tissues, thereby lessening your pain, such as:

  • Ultrasound to reduce swelling, pain, and stiffness
  • Low-level lasers to decrease inflammation
  • Electrotherapy stimulating muscles and nerves with tiny painless electric pulses to increase mobility

Psoriatic arthritis

This usually affects your skin first, before inflicting joint pain. While Dr. Dube won’t work directly on any swollen areas, he treats other locations to reduce swelling and secondary symptoms.

For example, if you suffer from arthritis of the knee, you may walk in a way that favors that area, but hurts your lower back. We treat your back pain using chiropractic manipulation.

How adjustments address inflammation

According to the Arthritis Foundation, joints must be aligned to work properly. By properly positioning your spine and other joints, Dr. Dube improves your body’s overall functioning. Chiropractic procedures may also reduce the production of proteins known as cytokines that may trigger inflammation in the first place.

Adjunct therapies

Aside from chiropractic treatments, Dr. Dube recommends other ways to ease your joint pain while boosting your overall fitness. These include:

Lifestyle changes

From making better food choices and maintaining a proper weight to managing stress through exercise and rest, we inspire you to remain on the road to good health. These choices not only lower your pain, they help keep your arthritis in check for a more productive life.

Exercise routines

We design a custom fitness practice that encompasses movement and stretching exercises to improve both flexibility and overall functioning.

Pain management

We teach you how to enhance your therapy with at-home self care, using hot and cold therapy, and more.

Live your best life

While chiropractic care can’t cure arthritis, it often prevents its spread while easing your joint pain. For osteoarthritis, for instance, Dr. Dube may use spinal manipulation, briefly moving specific areas beyond their normal range of motion.

If you suffer from pain due to arthritis or other issues, we offer a variety of treatments to help you gain strength and flexibility. Simply call one of our Manhattan offices or schedule an appointment through our online booking system today.
